Why not just share an IMDb, Amazon or Netflix list?
A shared IMDb list or streaming profile is the first thing most couples try — and the reason "how to share a watchlist" is such a common search. The big platforms just weren't built for two people watching together:

How long should a shared watchlist be?
A shared watchlist works best with 15–40 titles. Under 15 titles, a couple runs out of options on a tired night; over 40 titles, the list turns back into the endless scroll it was meant to replace.
A simple rule keeps the length in check: when the list passes 40 titles, each person removes one film they no longer feel strongly about before adding a new one.
What does a shared watchlist look like in a real week?
Here is a worked example. On Monday, one partner adds a thriller a coworker recommended. On Wednesday, the other partner adds a comedy from a trailer. On Friday, the couple opens the list, sees whose turn it is, and the partner whose turn it is picks from the top ten without vetoes.
After the film, both partners rate it separately, so neither score sways the other. The film moves from the watchlist to the couple's shared history with the date attached. A year later, that history answers "what did we watch on our anniversary?" in seconds.
What goes wrong with shared watchlists, and how do you fix it?
One partner adds everything. Fix: cap additions at three titles per person per week, so both voices stay visible on the list.
Nobody removes anything. Fix: once a month, delete every title that has sat on the list for six months without being picked.
The same person always chooses. Fix: alternate turns, and let the person whose turn it is pick within a shortlist of five so the choice takes under two minutes.
